How to Use Course Offering Search

Introduction

The Course Offering Search page allows managers to view past, current, and future course offering profiles from terms as early as 2003. The purpose of this search is to provide you a summary list of course offerings in a given term range and view specific course offering details.

In this section, you will learn how to do the following:

  • Search for a course offering

  • Generate a course offering report by subject, instructor, instructor ranks, or component types

How to Use the Course Offering Search Page

Please note:

  • Faculty and Department filters will be pre-selected based on the academic unit that you belong to; however, you are more than welcome to look up course offerings of other faculties and departments.

  • Term filters are default to the current term

  • Record status is pre-selected to display Active, Future and Past

  • You may filter by multiple course numbers. To insert an additional course number, click the box next to the first filter and start typing to make a selection

  • You may only filter by one instructor at a time

  1. Navigate to the menu dropdown under Course Mgmt > Course Offerings.

  2. Select the start term and end term to view course offerings in certain terms. The term filters are default to the current term.

  3. To filter by course number and instructor, you may simply start typing in the box.

  4. Select other filters to narrow down your search by choosing options in the drop downs and click .

  5. To view course offering details, click the Course Offering Title.

Customizing Your Course Offering Report

You may use the filters to customize the information that you would like to display in your report. There are also hidden columns in the results table that you can also include in your report. Hidden columns include: email address of instructor(s), actual/max enrollment, actual/max wait list, primary academic unit, session, workload value, and cross-listed. Enrollment numbers are updated nightly from go.sfu.ca.

  1. Select your filters (see table below) and click .

  2. On the top right side of the table, you will see 'Columns' placed sideways. Click on 'Columns' to view a list of displayed and hidden columns.

  3. Check off the columns that you want to display.

    • Note: Enrollment numbers are updated nightly.

  4. Click  to export results into a CSV file.

Format of Export File

The number of columns and row may differ from the table in eTRACS because:

  • Course Offering Title will be broken up into the following different columns: Subject Abbreviation, Course Number, Course Units, Course Title, Cross Listed Description Long (if applicable)

  • Course Offerings with more than one instructor will be displayed in separate rows (e.g. 2 instructors means 2 rows with same course offering title, but different instructors)
