Understanding the Course Offering Profile

Introduction

A course offering is a section (e.g. D100, D101) that is offered for a course. Sections can be different component types, such as lecture, tutorial, laboratory, etc. Each section is set up as individual course offering instances because they each have different details, such as meeting times. The course offering profile is generated and inherits some basic information from the course profile, such as course subject, course descriptions, etc. by default. The course offering profile is a product of the Course Planner and is meant for administrators to make unique changes after the course offering has been planned in the Course Planner.

Course Offering vs Course Profile

The course offering is generated from a course profile. Course offerings vary term by term which will contain more granular details than the course profile, such as instructors assigned, meeting schedules, campus, etc.

Example

Course Profile: CA 130 (4) - Fundamentals of Film

Course Offerings: In Fall 2019, the active course offerings are:

  • CA 130 (4) Fundamentals of Film D100 - Studio

  • CA 130 (4) Fundamentals of Film D101 - Laboratory

  • CA 130 (4) Fundamentals of Film D102 - Laboratory

How to Navigate the Course Offering Profile

The course offering profile is structured with 'tabs'. Tabs divide content into meaningful sections. This organization helps you go straight to a specific set of options according to your current needs.

All information in Course Offering Profiles is accessible to any system users; however, users with higher authority within their respective academic units may be able to edit their course offering profile details. Each tab has secure accesses in order to edit the information. Please view instructions here on how to gain access.
