Understanding the TTR Profile
Introduction
The TTR Profile is a planning tool used to manage teaching patterns (TTR) & workload transactions of an individual. The TTR profile displays the terms that the instructor should be teaching and researching for course assignment in the Course Planner. At the end of this lesson you will be able to:
Understand the components that make up the TTR profile
Understand the information produced from TTR transactions
Understand how to find important information that you need in order to do your job
How to Navigate the TTR
The TTR profile consists of three components: TTR Contact Card, TTR, and the Transaction Table. The TTR Contact Card includes basic information regarding the individual and a summary of the calculations derived from the transactions table that are necessary for planning. The TTR provides a visual guide to help you quickly reference the individual's teaching pattern. Only users with the permissions will be able to make modifications to the TTR and be able to view the transactions table.Â
Â
What is the TTR Contact Card?
The contact card provides a summary of the individual's active rank information, hire/tenure dates, and the net amount of study leave service years, course releases, banked courses, and other workload reduction values (1 in 9). The table below provides a description of how this information will help you in planning:
Â
The TTR calculations (e.g. Total Study Leave Service Years) in the contact card will display the calculated net amount before the End Term that is filtered. For example, if the term filters are set to display the TTR from Fall 2020 to Fall 2023, the Total Study Service Years will not include the accumulation of service years gained/used after Fall 2023. Â

|
What is the TTR?
The TTR provides a visual view of the individual's teaching pattern. Click on the Start Term and End Term filters to view a different term range.Â
Â
To accommodate for all Chrome, Firefox, and Safari users, the TTR profile page now has arrow buttons which allows you to easily view a large range of terms filtered. These arrows will appear if the terms selected do not fit in your screen. We have also moved the TTR grid scrollbar at the bottom of the page. This scrollbar will work in the same way as the arrows.
Â
Â
What are Pattern Elements?
Pattern Elements are used to administer transactions in the TTR. Each pattern element has a different effect on the TTR which is summarized in the table below. To use the pattern element, hover over and click on the desired pattern element. Drag the element in the applicable term and the resulting transaction will display in the transactions table. Only certain users with permissions will be able to apply pattern elements to build out individual teaching pattern. The following sheet is a summary of the pattern element actions:
Â
Code Abb. | Code | Action | Teaching Value | Study Leave Value | Course Release Value | 1 in 9 Value | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 in 6 | Null | Â | Â | Â | Â | Lecture faculties are entitled to configure their workload so that no teaching duties are assigned at least one semester in six without reduction in teaching load | |
Zero Teaching | Given | 0 | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Teaching workload marker when no teaching is planning to be done in a teaching term | |
Teaching | Given | 1 | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Teaching workload marker when the planned teaching workload to be assigned to the term is 1 | |
Teaching | Given | 2 | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Teaching workload marker when the planned teaching workload to be assigned to the term is 2 | |
Teaching | Given | 3 | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Teaching workload marker when the planned teaching workload to be assigned to the term is 3 | |
Teaching | Given | 4 | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Teaching workload marker when the planned teaching workload to be assigned to the term is 4 | |
Teaching | Given | Â | Â | Â | + 0.125 | Awards 0.125 1 in 9 credit for a teaching term for Teaching Faculty | |
Research | Â | Â | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Standard workload marker for research term which awards 0.33 study leave credit for Research Faculty | |
Pattern Even | Given | + 4 (Research Faculty) | Â | Â | Â | A marker which injects teaching workload (standard pattern) for following term set regarding ranks assigned | |
Pattern Not Even | Given | + 4 (Research Faculty) | Â | Â | Â | Teaching 2:1 workload ratio should be in balance, but is not. By placing NE, workload will be injected but the count of the workload goes back to the previous even E. | |
Buyout | Taken | -1 | Â | Â | Â | When a buyout is being taken, standard annual teaching workload is reduced | |
Course Equivalency | Taken | -1 | Â | Â | Â | When a course equivalency is being taken, standard annual teaching workload is reduced | |
Course Release | Given | Â | Â | + 1 | Â | When a course release is given to an instructor, the course release credit will increase and will allow the instructor to use it in the future to reduce teaching workload | |
(CR) | Course Release | Taken | -1 |  | -1 |  | When a course release is being taken, standard annual teaching workload is reduced |
1 in 8 | Taken | -1 | Â | Â | Â | For University Lecturers, at least one course equivalent in eight will be provided for curriculum development which will reduce annual teaching workload | |
1 in 16 | Taken | -1 | Â | Â | Â | For Senior Lecturers, one course equivalent in 16 will be provided for curriculum development, which will reduce annual teaching workload | |
 | 1 in 9 |  |  |  |  | -1 | Reduce standard annual teaching workload by the planned teaching workload of the term |
Admin Appointment | Â | Â | Â | Â | Â | Release from teaching for administrative duties | |
Study Leave | Taken | Â | -3/4/6 (Based on Leave Options chosen) | Â | Â | Standard workload marker which deducts study leave credits based on the years of service. Instructors are able to choose amount of study leave value taken, and value taken can be dependent on the following options (% Pay while on SL) chosen | |
Parental Leave | Given | Â | + 0.33 | Â | Â | Awards 0.33 study leave service year while on parental leave | |
Leave | Â | Â | Â | Â | Â | Medical leave | |
Personal Leave | Â | Â | Â | Â | Â | Workload is not affected and study leave value is not needed and affected. | |
Modified Appointment | Â | Â | Â | Â | Â | Accumulation of study leave service year and 1 in 9 non-teaching semester will be impacted by the percentage value entered based on the actual workload | |
Not Related To 6SP | Â | Â | Â | Â | Â | Essentially a Notes placeholder which will not affect workload but serves for tracking purpose to be able to refer back to the Notes, includes items that are not required to appear on 6SP. | |
Open Study Leave Credit | Given | Â | + | Â | Â | Awards study leave service year | |
Course Taught | Â | -1 | Â | Â | Â | Annual standard teaching workload is reduced by the workload value given of a course |
What is the Transaction Table?
The transaction table provides detail and explanation for each pattern element applied to the TTR. One or more transactions can correspond to a single pattern element. These transactions will be grouped together and can be expanded to show all transactions or collapsed to only display the parent transaction.Â
What is a Category?
The transaction table is divided into categories (tabs) containing pattern elements that have similar transaction types and effects towards teaching workload. The table below describes the pattern elements included in each category:
Â
Category | Â |
---|---|
All | Includes all transactions from all categories except course details |
Teaching Pattern | Includes elements used for building patterns such as T, R,E and NE |
Workload Reduction | Includes elements used to reduce teaching workload such as buyout, course equivalency, course release, 1 in 9, 1 in 16, 1 in 8 |
Leave | Includes different types of leave such as study leave, parental leave, personal leave, or other leaves |
Notes Not Listed on the Course Planner | Includes notes that does not need to show in the Course Planner |
Banked/Taught Courses | Includes all courses taught and banked courses |
Activity Log | Includes a log of who made changes, what changes were made, and when in the TTR |
How to Read the Transaction Table
The information displayed in the transaction table will depend on the pattern element applied. Some columns will be hidden for certain pattern elements. The table below will describe how to interpret each column in the transactions table:Â
Â
