Introduction


The Banked/Taught Courses allows you to make modifications on the assigned teaching value of a course. Changes made here will affect the teaching workload fulfilled by the instructor. Instructors may decide to 'bank' a course to be saved as a credit in transaction value for future use. A running total of such credit is displayed on TTR profile page contact card as Total Banked Courses indicating credits owned.

Courses Taught 


The Courses Taught transactions will automatically be generated when a course assignment is made in 6SP. The Notes column specifies the course that the Course Taught transaction is referring to. 

Modifying Part of Load

Course assignments may not necessarily contribute to the teaching workload defined in their contract. For example, instructors may only be supervising a course or teaching a course on overload. When an instructor is assigned to a course, the default transaction will mark Part of Load = 'Yes'. You may change Part of Load to 'No' if the course assigned will not count towards the teaching workload. If the instructor is assigned an overload teaching contract rank for a particular course, the Part of Load will be set to 'On Overload'. Here is a summary of Part of Load definitions:

Modifying Transaction Value 

The default Transaction Value will generate from the workload value defined in the course offering profile. If the transaction value is different for the Course Taught, you may double click on the box to change the value. The modified value will be noted in brackets next to the course name (e.g. (blue star)). 

Banked Courses 


Instructors can reduce their teaching workload by banking a course for future credit. A course may be banked if it is part of the teaching load. When a course is banked, this course will not be counted towards the teaching value in the current term. The total banked courses within the filtered terms can be quickly referenced in the TTR profile contact card.

A banked course is taken by an instructor in a future term, the teaching value will be subtracted in that period. Total Banked Courses will decrease accordingly.

How to Bank a Course 

  1. In the TTR profile page, scroll down to the transactions table. Click the Banked/Taught Courses tab.

  2. Find the course that the instructor wants to be banked. Ensure it is the correct course in the correct term by the Notes section. 

  3. Click the (blue star) button next to the course. The following will occur:

    • (B/K) notation will be added next to the course name in the TTR to indicate that it has been marked as a banked course (e.g. (blue star))

    • Total Banked Courses number displayed in the TTR summary card will increase by the value. 

    • The course will not be counted towards the teaching workload value as it will be a credit taken in the future. The future credit will be equivalent to the Transaction Value of the Course Taught being banked.

  4. Feel free to add notes in the Notes section for future reference. 

The banked course will remain displayed in Banked/Taught Courses tab in the transactions table for all terms filtered until the course has been unbanked and fulfills the total transaction value of the banked course. This is to allow administrators to easily reference banked courses and un-bank these courses when the instructor would like to take the credit. 

How to Un-bank a Course 

Before un-banking a course, ensure that 

  1. Find the banked course in the Banked/Taught Courses tab. Ensure that this is the correct course by reviewing the Notes section and Start/End Term dates.  

  2. Click the (blue star). The following will occur:

    • A new transaction row will display the Taken unbanked course transaction below the Given banked course transaction 

    • In the TTR pattern, a new badge will be created displaying the course name and (U/B) notation to indicate the course has been unbanked (e.g. (blue star))

    • Total Banked Courses number displayed in the TTR summary card will decrease by the value if the total banked transaction value is fulfilled. 

  3. You must first change Start Term of the unbanked (U/B) course according to the term that the instructor would like to un-bank the course. 

It is important to change the start term before changing the transaction value because Start Term is default to when the course was banked. Once Transaction Value in the Given transaction is equal to the Taken, these transactions will only display when the Start Term is within the range of the terms filtered for the TTR view. 

For example, the TTR is filtered to display terms between Summer 2020 and Fall 2023. If the course is unbanked in Fall 2024 and I input the transaction value where Given is equal to Taken first, the Banked course transactions will disappear and you will need to go back to the past term when the course was banked to change Start Term. 

  1. After changing the term dates, change the transaction value to the amount of credit the instructor decides to take. The (blue star) button will remain next to the course until the instructor has fulfilled the total transaction value of the banked course.
